Thule 938 VeloSpace XT - 2 Bike Rack - 938000
Frequently asked questions
Can the Thule VeloSpace carry e-bikes?
Yes. The VeloSpace has a total load capacity of 60kg and can carry bikes weighing up to 30kg each. This makes it suitable for most e-bikes and heavier mountain bikes, provided each bike and the total combined load remain within those limits. Removing the batteries before loading can make heavier bikes easier to handle.
How many bikes does this VeloSpace carry?
This model is designed to carry 2 bikes .
It can be expanded to carry 3 bikes using the compatible Thule VeloSpace XT Bike Adapter, sold separately. The adapter has a maximum bike load of 15kg, and the complete rack setup must remain within the applicable total load limit.
What bike sizes will fit?
The VeloSpace is designed for a wide range of bikes, including e-bikes, mountain bikes, downhill bikes and smaller children's bikes. It supports long wheelbases and wide tyres, making it particularly useful for larger mountain bikes and e-bikes. Always check the bike weight, wheelbase and tyre width against the specifications shown on this product page before ordering.
Is the VeloSpace suitable for carbon-frame bikes?
Yes, but carbon frames require additional care. Thule recommends using a compatible carbon frame protector where the rack's bike arm clamps onto a carbon frame. Always follow the bike manufacturer's guidance before securing a carbon-frame bike.
Does the VeloSpace tilt for rear vehicle access?
Yes. The rack can tilt away from the vehicle with bikes loaded, helping provide access to the rear hatch or boot. Actual clearance depends on the vehicle, towball position and hatch design, so test the movement carefully the first time the rack is fitted.
Does the VeloSpace fold for storage?
Yes. The rack folds down to reduce its storage height when it is not fitted to the vehicle. It does not fold into as compact a package as the Epos or EasyFold 3, so check the folded dimensions if storage space is limited.
Will it fit my vehicle's towball?
This rack requires an ISO-compliant 50mm towball. Some standard 50mm towballs do not provide the correct shape or clearance for the Thule clamping system, even though the ball diameter is the same.
Your vehicle and towbar must also be rated for the combined weight of the rack and bikes. Check the towball download limit before carrying heavy e-bikes.
Will the rack cover my number plate or rear lights?
The rack includes integrated rear lights with a New Zealand-standard 7-pin flat connector and a dedicated number plate mounting position.
If your vehicle's original registration plate is obscured, you will need to display an official supplementary plate on the rack. Read our NZ supplementary plate guide .
Is a loading ramp available?
Yes. A compatible Thule loading ramp is available separately and lets you roll heavier bikes onto the rack instead of lifting them into place. Check the accessories listed on this page to make sure you select the correct ramp for your VeloSpace model.
How is the Thule VeloSpace shipped?
Shipping is free within New Zealand. These racks can normally be sent by courier from our Nelson HQ, although delivery options can vary for rural or remote addresses.
Will this rack cover your number plate?
If the rack or your bikes obscure the vehicle’s registration plate, you may need an official supplementary plate. This can apply even when the rack is fitted without bikes.
